Eight was founded by Knowle West Media Centre and is run from KWMC’s environmental building in South Bristol.
In 2013, 2014 and 2015 KWMC employed three groups of eight young artists who were struggling to find work in the creative industries. As Junior Digital Producers (JDPs), these emerging creatives received training in a range of disciplines including web development, data visualisation and design, while they worked on projects in Bristol’s communities. Since leaving the programme, 88% of JDPs have found work or become self-employed.
Inspired by these original eight trainees and keen to support more creatives like them, KWMC founded Eight in 2015. The agency offers high-quality work whilst enabling creatives to take the next step in their careers, particularly those who have experienced challenges or barriers to entering the industry.
Knowle West Media Centre is supported by Bristol City Council and supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
